Refusal to provide refund; refusal to even apologize or guarantee non-expiration of Groupon bucks offered
In July, 2020, I purchased a $13.00 Groupon for a premium take-out pack of Barbecue at Bill Spoon's BBQ, 5524 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC. On July 31, I drove to Bill Spoon's BBQ to redeem my voucher only to learn from the employee with whom I spoke that Bill Spoon's BBQ had requested Groupon remove the offer I purchased months ago but that Groupon has not done so (and continues to sell the worthless vouchers as of today).
When I returned home I initiated a chat with Groupon customer support and requested a refund for the worthless voucher they had sold me. The agent with whom I spoke told me she could not do that. So I requested a supervisor call me to discuss the situation which was very uncomfortable at the restaurant (which was upset because customers continued to be sent there with worthless vouchers) and inconvenient for me (because I had driven out of my way to redeem Groupon's worthless voucher). The agent said that supervisors weren't able to telephone customers (!) but that she would have a supervisor contact me by e-mail within 24 hours.
(I retained a transcript of this chat to document my complaint.) I received no response from any Groupon supervisor until I filed a complaint with the BBB. Even through the BBB complaint process, Groupon refused to apologize for selling the worthless voucher or to guarantee, in a written response, that the Groupon bucks they were offering instead of the requested refund would not have an expiration date.
User's recommendation: Avoid Groupon; their customer service has deteriorated to the point where it is simply unacceptable.
Monetary Loss: $13.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
Groupon Pros: How they use to be.
Groupon Cons: Slow response, Refused to apologize, Refused to provide refund for worthless voucher they sold me, Refused to guarantee that groupon bucks would not expire, You can not speak with a live person.
